hCard Microformat Changes
Back in June, I discussed the hCard microformat, and then in July, I praised Brian Suda for answering my questions and pointing out my mistakes with hCards.
Brian e-mailed me again to tell me that they had updated the specification for the hCard and that more updates were in the pipe. The change was that the e-mail part of the hCard now must be a mailto: address, which are notorious for being harvested by spammers (which is why if you click the contact link on this site, you get a web form. Note: this was when I was hosting the site on my ISP's web space. Now that it is on BlogSpot, there is no contact form. --JLW 10 October 2006 A.D.). I don't agree with this move, and I have stated why on the hCard issues wiki at microformats.org.

Although I don't really have any evidence to back it up, I'd have thought an email address on a website was open to spammers wherever on the page it appears, whether in a mailto link or not.
So since the microformats don't say what information you must publish, just what markup you should use if you do, I don't see it as a problem.
